Start with the exact status and claim type

VA lets veterans check the status of claims, decision reviews, and appeals online. When the message says a reviewer is examining new evidence, write down the claim or review type, the issue, and the date shown in the status tool.

Do not treat the status as a prediction. It does not say the claim will be granted, denied, or decided by a certain date. It only tells you that evidence is in a review step, and some review lanes show less step-by-step detail than an initial disability claim.

Do not confuse the status with Higher-Level Review

VA says Higher-Level Review does not allow new evidence. If a page or app status talks about new evidence, confirm whether you are looking at a Supplemental Claim, a different decision review, or another claim record.

That distinction matters after a denial. HLR is about reviewing the existing record for an error or a different senior review. Supplemental Claim is the lane VA describes for adding new and relevant evidence.
